We will never surrender - The Battle Cry of the FamilySearch Family Tree

After reading one of my recent posts, someone asked me if I were going to give up on the FamilySearch.org Family Tree. The real question is whether or not we are going to give up to the bullies, the dogmatist and those who put in unsupported and undocumented entries. Here is my response:

No not at all, but some are. I am too English for that. I would paraphrase Churchill, We shall go on to the end. We shall fight with sources, we shall fight for ancestry and consistency, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength on the internet, we shall defend our family lines, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight in the archives, we shall fight in the libraries, we shall fight in the repositories and in the microfilm records, we shall fight in our homes on our own computers; we shall never surrender. The FamilySearch Family Tree is the solution, not the problem.

Exactly and carefully documented to the best of our ability. We will save ourselves and all OUR dead.

  1. I think part of the problem is that the community of users have pretty much been left on their own to patrol Family Tree and fix all the irresponsible and irrational changes that are made. That's fine for guys like me who are retired and have the time and interest to do it. But, it's a huge time commitment and I'm afraid too many users are simply going to surrender. I think FamilySearch needs to make a serious effort to put controls in place that will at least slow down all the unsupported and undocumented entries. They seem to have largely turned a deaf ear to this issue.
