This past year, the Brigham Young University Family History Library began a series of live, online webinars. After these webinars were broadcast, the recordings were uploaded to the BYU Family History Library YouTube Channel. Both before the webinar series began in March of 2016 and during the year, the missionaries at the BYU Family History Library recorded shorter training videos that were also included in the presentations uploaded to the YouTube Channel. At the end of 2016, there were 225 of these videos available for viewing throughout the world.
Although certainly not as popular as some of the YouTube celebrities, the BYU Family History Library YouTube videos make a significant contribution to the overall education of genealogists. As this series continues and with the suggestions made by viewers, we intend to cover a broad spectrum of topics during the coming year. Viewers are certainly welcome to tune into the live broadcasts. If you are listening online during the live broadcast, you can ask questions through the "chat room" and make comments. But all of the videos will be uploaded with a day or so of the original broadcast date.
We also encourage everyone to subscribe to the BYU Family History Library YouTube Channel. Depending on your Google settings, you may receive email notification of any new videos as they are uploaded. At the end of 2016, we had over 2,600 subscribers.
We need to thank the BYU Family History Library and the Harold B. Lee Library staff and administration for their support in sponsoring these webinars and other videos. It has been an interesting experience to see how this initial idea has grown over the past year.
